Thundridge Community Orchard

Orchard Overview

July 10, 2024

Apart from the overgrown areas and grass being far to long the orchard looks good, most new fruit trees are producing decent crops, a couple haven’t produced any fruit at all, probably due too our weird weather. The ‘Herefordshire Russet’ planted last year for the ‘Queens Green Canopy’ by the ’Thundridge School’ pupils is coming along well as are the three new donated ‘Victoria Plum’, ‘Crab Apple’ and ‘Conference Pear’. The new wildflower bed is good. The new ‘Bee Hotel’ is working for the bees and also the naughty ‘Greater Spotted Woodpecker’ who seems to like searching for grubs and pulling out the bamboo sticks?
Pond is okay, but needs a bit of weed clearing. We’re still getting ‘Southern Hawker Dragonflies’ and more  ‘Common Darter Dragonflies’ emerging.

Hopefully some grass and scrub clearing in the next couple of weeks. We can't see the trees for the grass!
